An Open Letter To The Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation Family, 

On behalf of the board of directors and executive team, I extend deep appreciation for your professional dedication to the organization over the past few months. And on a personal note, I want you to know how much I have valued each of you–as humans and as colleagues–during this time. Together we’ve faced the fear and uncertainty of a global pandemic, and are now experiencing seismic movement toward civil rights and the dismantling of systemic racism in our society. 

Let us be clear on this day and every day:

• The Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation wholeheartedly and unconditionally believes that Black Lives Matter.

• We condemn police brutality.

• We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind in our workspaces or anywhere in society.

• We stand, and act, against racism. 

• We support the Black community in Tulsa as allies during these trying and difficult times and in the future.

We are committed to these principles. And, we recognize that our work starts by looking inward to better ourselves as an organization. We are actively listening, learning and identifying ways to put antiracist policies into place at LTFF, and being intentional in our commitment to better ourselves as allies to Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities in Tulsa and beyond.

Before we can talk about where we’re heading as a team, I want to be transparent about where we are now.

Today, the LTFF team of 35 includes:

  • Black: 9%
  • People of Color: 23%
  • White: 77%
  • Female Identifying: 51%
  • Male Identifying: 49%

In the last twelve months, our new hires have been 32% People of Color and 68% White. I, along with our leadership team, commit to you that we are going to do better, both as individuals and as an organization.

The work we are doing includes:

  • Evaluating our hiring, onboarding and ongoing training procedures for unconscious bias in order to be an organization where all prospective and current employees feel valued, seen and appreciated as their true selves and have equitable opportunities to advance in their careers with LTFF. 
  • Auditing all of our vendors and business partners for LTFF, Mother Road Market and Kitchen 66. Any who do not align with our values as an organization will be replaced with vendors who do. Additionally, we will use this as an opportunity to identify BIPOC-owned businesses in our community that we can support and partner with.
  • Intensifying our learning about being an ally to the Black community. To that end, we invite you to join us for a three month book club, with books and resources curated by Tulsan Onikah Asamoa-Caesar through her bookstore, Fulton Street Books & Coffee
  • Initiating an employee match program, with support from our Board of Directors. Any contribution you make to a non-profit committed to fighting systemic oppression of the Black community or amplifying Black voices in Tulsa will be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000.

 As always, LTFF’s mission is to empower Tulsans to achieve their goals by decreasing barriers associated with big ideas. Externally, we are living out this charitable mission. Now, our internal policies and practices need to better reflect this commitment to equity. We are sincere in our mission and value the input of our staff and our community as we continue on this journey. We know the work will be hard, and oftentimes uncomfortable, but we are committed to our goals and look forward to helping transform Tulsa.
